Thank you for your interest in applying to our DMA/PhD Program in Music. After thorough review, the Department of Music has come to the difficult decision to pause Graduate Admissions for the upcoming Fall 2026 Admissions Cycle. Due to budgetary impacts, the department will be taking this time to evaluate its available resources, current curriculum, and admissions practices within the department. 

The Department of Music has officially closed the graduate application portal for both the DMA and PhD degree options in Music. Students will not be able to submit an application for the Fall 2026 Admissions Cycle under the Department of Music, even if the application is currently in progress. The department will not be accepting any applicants and/or admitting any students for the Fall 2026 Admissions Cycle. 

The Department of Music will pause admissions for the Fall 2026 Cycle only. We will resume accepting applicants for the following Fall 2027 Admissions Cycle effective September 2026. Please note that we do not offer a standalone Masters Program. 

We would like to thank you for the time and effort you have already put into your application process, as we know it is a culmination of your hard work and valued interest in pursuing a PhD in the field of Music. Of all the universities and programs you could have selected to apply for, we are honored you have chosen our Music Program here at UC San Diego as a top contender.
