Brown University’s one year, on-campus master of science in medical sciences provides you with new pathways to medical school and successful careers in other health sciences fields.
This special masters program (SMP) is part of Brown’s Gateways Program at the Warren Alpert Medical School, recognized as a national leader in medical education and biomedical research.
This program offers the following degree:
- Master of science (Sc.M.): Coursework and a community-based capstone project
Immerse yourself in the complexities of today’s healthcare system through the program’s multifaceted curriculum, combining hands-on experience with a rigorous foundation in biomedical science — with several courses taken alongside first-year medical school students.
During the program, you’ll have the opportunity to complete a unique seminar course series addressing pressing issues in today’s healthcare system, including social determinants of health, population health, interdisciplinary teamwork, quality improvement, basic clinical skills, medical ethics and the care of vulnerable patient populations.
Through the community-based capstone project, you’ll apply your knowledge at a community healthcare site, tackling real-world healthcare challenges and making a tangible impact on the community. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your credentials for medical school and other healthcare fields but also provide invaluable insights into the healthcare system.
