Brown University’s accredited, two-year, on-campus master of science in medical physics arms you with the clinical expertise and research skills needed to secure top medical physics residencies nationwide.

With a rigorous curriculum combining cutting-edge training, hands-on clinical practice and a strong focus on research, Brown’s master’s in medical physics sets you up for success in the field. Housed within the Warren Alpert Medical School, you’ll learn in a setting recognized as a national leader in medical education and biomedical research. 

This program offers the following degree: 

• Master of science (Sc.M.): Coursework and a thesis 

During the program, you’ll learn in a collaborative environment where you’ll have one-on-one time with faculty in various clinical settings. With dedicated research time, you’ll make meaningful contributions to scientific discovery, while receiving valuable mentorship from faculty in the Department of Radiation Oncology who are experts in radiation therapy physics, artificial intelligence in medicine, diagnostic imaging and radiomics. 

You’ll dive into activities like weekly journal clubs, chart rounds and sessions focused on physics, dosimetry and quality assurance.

By the end of the program, you’ll showcase in-depth knowledge of medical physics topics, including imaging and therapy, demonstrate proficiency in presenting research at local or national meetings, pass the American Board of Radiology Part I exam and contribute to faculty projects. 

Additional Information

This program is open to students with backgrounds in engineering, physics, applied math or computer science. Students with degrees in the biological sciences must provide documented completion of coursework in the identified areas to be considered for the program.
