When you apply to U-M, you’ll first apply to the College of Engineering, not directly to NA&ME. As a first-year student, you’ll start in a common engineering program before picking your major. For more info on admissions, transfers, and international applications, check out the Office of Undergraduate Admissions website.

Declaring the NA&ME Major

Once you’re accepted to U-M and the College of Engineering, you can choose your major.

You can declare the NAME major as early as your second term in the College of Engineering once you meet these requirements:

  1. You’ve finished at least one full term of courses on the U-M Ann Arbor campus.
  2. Your U-M GPA is 2.0 or higher, and you’re in good standing.
  3. You’ve completed (or gotten credit for) one or more courses in each area:
    • Calculus (e.g. Math 115, 116)
    • Calculus-based physics lectures (e.g. Physics 140) or chemistry lectures (e.g. Chemistry 130)
    • Required engineering courses (Engr 100, 101)
  4. To declare the major, just schedule an advising appointment with our Undergraduate Advisor, Carrie Moore.
