Program Learning Outcomes for the BA Degree with a Major in German Studies 

Upon completing the BA degree with a major in German Studies, students be able to: 

1. Communicate fluently in spoken and written German.
2. Critically read and interpret German texts of all genres.
3. Achieve the cultural literacy necessary to study abroad and to pursue internationally-based professions by demonstrating knowledge of the major social, cultural, and political issues in the German speaking world, past and present.
4. Demonstrate an interdisciplinary understanding of German studies that encompasses German literature, art, film, and other cultural forms in a global context.
5. Learn and apply various research skills, including critical thinking and reading skills, theory, and criticism, to German language texts in order to produce new critical insights verbally or in writing.
