What is IT Product Development?

IT Product Development combines software development with user-centred design methods to create physical IT products for everyday life. These can include smartwatches and smart glasses, in-car interfaces, medical devices, building climate control systems, and many other technology-driven products.

Throughout the programme, you will learn how to design, model, and solve problems to construct and program physical IT products with integrated software and new interaction techniques – starting from scratch. You will also gain a solid foundation in core computer science topics such as software development, algorithms, programming, and data analysis.

No prior programming experience is required. The programme is structured to ensure that all students learn programming from the ground up, regardless of their background.

In addition to technical skills, you will gain both practical and theoretical experience in designing products in close collaboration with users. You will work with sensors (such as light, sound, and motion) and actuators (such as LEDs, speakers, and stepper motors) to create interactive systems. As part of your studies, you will also be introduced to topics such as computer architecture, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality, 3D modelling, and 3D printing.
