Welcome to the University of Michigan Department of Mechanical Engineering (U-M ME). As chair, I am honored to witness the creativity, drive, and dedication of our community, which includes all of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and collaborators, who continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Our department’s mission is as vital as ever: to “Make the world work better.” Every day, our mechanical engineers and researchers transform futures, improve lives, and achieve breakthroughs that address critical challenges worldwide.

The U-M ME community is defined by its spirit of innovation and collaboration. Our faculty lead pioneering research in advanced manufacturing and mobility solutions, robotics, energy technologies, and biomedical devices. Our courses empower students to design, problem-solve, and invent, preparing them for impactful careers and lifelong learning.
