The five-year B.A. (English Studies) and B.Ed. (English Language Education) Co-terminal Double Degree Programme (ELED Programme) is offered by the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Department of English and the English Language Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Arts. We aspire to nurture professional English teachers with conceptual and theoretical knowledge in subject matter, curricula and pedagogy; to develop reflective English teachers with a comprehensive view and insights into educational issues in the local and global contexts; and to produce effective English teachers with solid application skills for communication, teaching and research.
The ELED programme offers inbound and outbound experiential learning and community-engagement opportunities to promote an enriched student experience, to develop students’ potential and widen their horizons, and to foster their leadership and whole-personal development. The compulsory 8- to 10-week overseas immersion programme further enhances students’ English language proficiency, enriches their understanding of the cultures of English-speaking communities, and expands their exposure to overseas educational practices.
