Thank you for your interest in UC San Diego’s Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate programs!

ECE has long been a powerhouse at UC San Diego with its innovative and impactful research led by top-notch faculty and outstanding graduate and undergraduate students. When our Chancellor challenged us to “break from the ordinary” to make the world a better place, ECE accepted it with a conviction that the work we can do can change our future.

The department offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs across thirteen disciplines within ECE, all of which are all laid out here. The Ph.D. program emphasizes research conducted under the guidance and mentorship of a faculty advisor, culminating with a final doctoral dissertation. The M.S. program provides intensive technical preparation for advanced engineering practice or further doctoral study, with both coursework-based and thesis options available.
