Brown+RISD’s 11-month, on-campus master of arts in design engineering is a joint degree program between Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, where students explore the intersection of design creativity and engineering innovation.

Carve your own pathway through the Brown+RISD master’s in design engineering (MADE) program. Whether your interests lie in user experience (UX) design, systems design, robotics, human-AI collaboration, game design, new media, health technology, sustainable design, data visualization or other fields, MADE offers the flexibility and interdisciplinary approach to help you achieve your unique career goals.

This program offers the following degree (full-time): 

  • Master of Arts (A.M.)

You’ll engage in developing effective solutions through iterative making and testing, bringing ideas to life through tangible creations. Utilizing our studios and workshops, featuring a well-equipped, 10,000 sq. ft. maker space for prototyping, you’ll explore innovative frameworks to tackle global challenges. The rigorous curriculum integrates team-based projects, enhancing your interdisciplinary collaboration skills and fostering a dynamic learning environment.
