专业介绍

The Sc.B. program in Electrical Engineering equips students with a solid foundation for careers in electrical engineering and related fields, to advance the knowledge base for future technologies, and to merge teaching, scholarship, and practice in the pursuit of solutions to human needs.

Electrical engineers design and manufacture microelectronic hardware; sensors; biomedical instrumentation; communication systems; control systems; radar and navigation equipment, as well as power generation and distribution equipment and propulsion systems. The professional organization for electrical engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), has over 400,000 members worldwide.

The curriculum consists of an interdisciplinary engineering core that includes courses in engineering, mathematics, and computer science, followed by advanced courses in electrical engineering, which include linear systems, analog and digital electronics, advanced science (typically modern physics or quantum mechanics) and three upper-level EE courses selected by the students.  The program culminates with the capstone project course.

Student Goals

Students in this concentration will:

  • Explore the fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, ranging from Maxwell’s equations of electromagnetism to analog and digital electronic circuits and systems, to linear systems and communication theory that underpins modern civilization
  • Acquire a depth of knowledge in various specialized areas of Electrical Engineering
  • Complete a capstone project integrating concepts from the Electrical Engineering concentration
