Students may choose majors or minors in the study of the ancient languages (Greek and/or Latin) or Classical Civilization. We offer four majors: Classical Civilization, Greek, Latin, and Greek and Latin. We offer minors in Classical Civilization, Greek Language and Culture, and Latin Language and Culture. Latin 16 (an eight-week summer intensive language courses) may be substituted for Latin 1, 2, and 3
Greek 16 (an eight-week summer intensive language courses) may be substituted for Greek 1, 2, and 3
Requirements for the Major:
- Three upper division courses selected from: Classics M114A-185, History 112A-115
- Courses in related fields not offered by the department may be substituted by petition and with approval of the faculty undergraduate advisor.
- Four upper division Latin courses (must include Latin 110)
- Four upper division Greek courses (must include Greek 110)
- Classics 191
Students in the Greek, Latin, and Greek and Latin majors are permitted to take Greek 200A, 200B, 200C and Latin 200A, 200B, and 200C with consent of the instructor.
