The UChicago Crown Family School AM in Social Sector Leadership and Nonprofit Management (SSL) is a twelve-course degree program designed to empower early-to-mid career professionals — typically with 3 to 5 years of work experience — to become more inclusive and impactful leaders across the social sector. Offering both part- and full-time options, it is an ideal fit for emerging social sector leaders who want to develop the capacity to influence and build better organizations that advance a more just and humane society, while developing the capacity to more effectively address social change.

Unlike traditional nonprofit management programs, SSL’s curriculum will expose you to both the conceptual foundation and practical skills needed to become a more effective social sector leader. Taught by faculty working at the forefront of social sector governance, SSL is unique is its ability to provide students with knowledge about how mission-driven organizations operate in their communities, as well as deep conceptual thinking about how these organizations can respond to complex social problems.

Through your coursework, you will gain access to more than a network; you will develop lasting connections with your peers and other leaders in the social sector. Our students pursue their studies in a close-knit cohort that celebrates diversity and fosters self-discovery and human connection through a grounding experience deeply embedded in the social fabric of Chicago.

As an SSL graduate, you will earn a master’s degree from the UChicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and be ready to apply a social justice lens to whatever challenges and opportunities your organization may face, advancing the kind of positive social change you want to see in the world.
